Increasing number of motorcyclists demands Increased attention to rider safety

(August 12, 2010) Summer’s here and more motorcyclists are hitting the roads than ever before.  According to a recent survey by the Motorcycle Industry Council, the number of motorcycles owned and used in America grew 19 percent since 2003. That means an estimated 25 million people — equal to the population of Michigan — swung a leg over a bike and rode last year.

Harley-Davidson sells Italian motorcycle MV Agusta

(Augsut 8, 2010) Harley-Davidson Inc. said Friday it finished its sale of Italian motorcycle maker MV Agusta to Claudio Castiglioni.

Castiglioni is the company's former owner and had served as MV Agusta's chairman since Harley-Davidson purchased it in 2008. Harley-Davidson has been focused on cutting costs and streamlining its business. It said last October it planned to sell MV Agusta.

Over two-thirds of car-motorcycle crashes are caused by drivers, not by motorcyclists. The driver either does not see the oncoming motorcyclist at all or does not see the motorcyclist in time to avoid a crash.

Test Ride: 2008 Ducati Hypermotard S

I recently had an opportunity to spend about 40 minutes aboard a 2008 Ducati Hypermotard 1100S as part of the 2008 AMA Superbike Big Kahuna Nationals at Virginia International Raceway, and it was a very interesting and informative experience.
