Honda rolls out two trails bikes for 2015

(July 28, 2014) TORRANCE, Calif. — Trials riders are about as passionate a bunch of enthusiasts as you're likely to find. Now they have a new way to fire up that passion as Honda adds a second new Cota trials mount to the line that includes the Cota Race Replica introduced in 2014.

"Trials riding is a very unique style of competition that's spectacular to watch and incredibly difficult to do well," said Lee Edmunds, manager of Motorcycle Marketing Communications.

Harley-Davidson reports strong second quarter; U.S. sales sluggish

(July 22, 2014) MILWAUKEE — Harley-Davidson second-quarter 2014 diluted earnings per share of $1.62 grew 33.9 percent on higher motorcycle shipments and continued improvement in operating efficiencies, compared to the year-ago period.

Second-quarter net income was $354.2 million on consolidated revenue of $2 billion, compared to net income of $271.7 million in the year-ago period on consolidated revenue of $1.79 billion.

Two world records broken at motorcycle auction

(July 14, 2014) WOODSTOCK, Oxfordshire, England — International auctioneers Coys have broken two world records at auction when they sold a 1931 Indian 1300 for £90,000 ($153,900) and a 1953 Mondial 125 Monoalbero for £60,000 ($102,600) on July 11at Blenheim Palace in the UK.

BMW sets six-month sales record for motorcycles

(July 11, 2014) MUNICH — BMW Motorrad has achieved an all-time six-month high in the first half of this year. With worldwide sales of 70,978 motorcycles and maxi scooters compared to 64,941 units in 2013, this amounts to an increase of 9.3%. June sales were down 5.7 percent, however, from 2013 totals with 11,827 units sold.

Harley-Davidson recalling 66,421 motorcycles over brake problem

(July 10, 2014) Harley-Davidson has reported that it is recalling 66,421 Touring and CVO Touring motorcycles from the 2014 model year because their front wheels can lock up without warning. Motorcycles with anti-lock brakes built between July 1, 2013, and May 7, 2014, are included in the recall.

Harley-Davidson says the front brake line can get pinched between the fuel tank and the frame. That could cause front brake fluid pressure to increase, increasing the risk that the front wheel could lock up while riding.

Harley-Davidson working on its first electric motorcycle

(June 20, 2014) MILWAUKEE — Harley-Davidson has revealed Project LiveWire — the first Harley-Davidson electric motorcycle. In keeping with the company's customer-led product development approach, starting next week select consumers across the country will be able to ride and provide feedback on the bike, helping to shape the future of Harley-Davidson's first-ever electric motorcycle.

While not for sale, Project LiveWire is specifically designed for the purpose of getting insight into rider expectations of an electric Harley-Davidson motorcycle.

Forest Lawn Museum in Glendale, Calif., to present motorcycle exhibition

(June 18, 2014) GLENDALE, Calif. — Forest Lawn Museum presents Vroom: The Art of the Motorcycle, an exhibition of distinctive and artfully designed motorcycles, intricately painted motorcycle parts and accessories, and motorcycle-themed artworks. The exhibit will be on  view at Forest Lawn Museum from June 27 to Jan. 5, 2015.

Ducati Scrambler to debut at World Ducati Week

Bultaco is back developing high-performance electric motorcycles

(May 19, 2014) LONDON — On the anniversary of the founding of the brand and the birth of its creator — Don Paco Bultó — Bultaco has announced its return to the motorcycle market.

"In 2015, the first Bultaco models will be built with its own in-house electrical propulsion system; the prototypes unveiled today (May 17) provide a sneak peak at the motorcycles we will see riding our streets in the future. A painstaking industrialization process has been pursued to get to this model, from the validation of prototypes to the creation of the network of suppliers, all revolving around the new Bultaco factory in Barcelona, (Spain)" the company said in a news release.
