Study shows U.S. automakers improve relations with suppliers

Hyundai, Kia may see engine parts shortage

(May 23, 2011) South Korea's Hyundai Motor and its affiliate Kia Motors said Sunday they have suffered from a production disruption of some of its SUV models after a labor strike at one of its suppliers led to a parts shortage.

Hyundai, the world's fifth-biggest carmaker along with Kia Motors, warned that a protracted supply disruption could deal a blow at a time when Japanese rivals are resuming full production after the March 11 earthquake.

Government finds no safety issues with Toyota Corolla steering

(May 20, 2011) Toyota officials this month put another safety investigation behind them. The U.S. government has announced that it found no electronic-related steering defects that would compromise safety in 2009 and 2010 model Corollas.

That is good news for the Japanese automaker because the compact-sized Corolla is its second-biggest volume car in terms of sales. With 266,000 Corollas sold last year, only the mid-sized Camry outsold it in the Toyota lineup.
