BMW M850i Gran Coupe

PHOENIX — After a 22-year hiatus BMW revived the 8-Series as its new flagship model, sitting high atop BMW’s lineup in terms of design, luxury and status. The Gran Coupe reviewed here is a four-door sedan version of the two-door 8-Series, which is available as a coupe or convertible.

(August 15, 2021) After years of being uncompetitive in the SUV segment, Volkswagen has finally caught up with the competition filling out what is now a four-vehicle lineup with the sub-compact Taos. Volkswagen has entered the fray with a very compelling vehicle in a segment that features such nameplates as the Jeep Compass, Subaru Crosstrek, Honda HR-V, and Mazda CX-30.

Hyundai Santa Fe — A noteworthy refreshening

By Jim Meachen and Ted Biederman

(August 8, 2021) Hyundai has a solid slate of crossover SUVs for most family's needs from the sub-compact Venue and Kona to the compact Tucson to the small mid-sized Santa Fe to the mid-sized three-row Palisade. It's a fresh lineup — the Tucson is all-new for 2022, the Kona has been significantly refreshed, the Palisade was introduced in 2020 as an all-new SUV — and the Santa Fe gets a big dose of freshening for 2022.

2022 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross

DALLAS — I have to admit, as a brand, Mitsubishi has grown on me in the past couple of years. Back when the Mirage was first introduced I was provided one to test drive and wrote a quite scathing review on it because I did not consider it safe. When driving I found that when any other vehicle passed me (it had terrible acceleration and power) I was almost blown off the road. Later, when attending the Los Angeles Auto Show, the media representative courted me extensively, explaining that the Mirage sales were going fantastic and I should reconsider.

2022 Kia Carnival

INDIANAPOLIS — One of my favorite cars is the Moderne-style 1936 Stout Scarab  — a rear-engine aluminum forerunner to the minivan that was aimed at Hollywood’s elite as a more fashion-forward limousine.  Drivers worked in an airplane-inspired cockpit while passengers lounged in the rear. Kia harbors the Scarab’s spirit to create a glamorous and obscenely comfortable multi-purpose vehicle for all you carry. Just don’t call the 2022 Carnival a minivan.

2022 Acura MDX

PHOENIX — The Acura MDX is one of the first 2022 models to arrive in showrooms. And just about everything in this fourth-generation three-row crossover is brand new. Acura is Honda’s premium brand, and has been around since 1986. The popular MDX was first introduced for 2001, and Acura says the new model is in an entirely new class. Changes start with the exterior styling, and continue to the all-new ultra-rigid platform with an MDX-first double-wishbone front suspension, new technology, and more space for people and gear.
