Lexus LC 500 convertible — An outstanding grand tourer

By Jim Meachen and Ted Biederman

(November 1, 2020) It's a stunner. Everywhere we'd go someone would comment on our "great-looking car." The 2021 Lexus LC 500 convertible possesses looks to kill, a stunning conglomeration of creases and lines highlighted by a giant Lexus spindle grille. It's a concept car for the road with a top that opens — and closes — in 15 seconds with the push of a button.

(October 25, 2020) The Toyota Supra returned to dealerships last year — 21 years after the previous Supra left the automotive landscape. The latest Supra comes with shapely sheetmetal and with considerable help from BMW, which donated the engine, transmission and interior bits and pieces. The two-seater was a hit in 2020 with its stupefying collection of curves, creases, and body moldings, and its willingness to eat up curving mountain roads with aplomb.

2021 Mercedes-AMG GLE63

INDIANAPOLIS — Back in 1991, one of the fastest vehicles you could buy was the GMC Typhoon – a high-performance version of the Jimmy, stoked with a 280 horsepower turbocharged V6 engine and electronic all-wheel-drive that could run 0-60 mph in 5.3 seconds.  It kept pace with contemporary Corvettes and spoiled passengers with a leather-lined luxury interior.  Flash forward thirty years and we have the Typhoon’s spiritual successor, the 2021 Mercedes-AMG GLE 63 S.

VW Atlas Cross Sport — Stylish and cargo friendly

By Jim Meachen and Ted Biederman

(October 11, 2020) For those pope who like the size of a mid-sized three-row crossover SUV, but have no need for the cramped third-row and would rather have extra cargo space and second-row legroom, there's a new breed of two-row variants now available including the Volkswagen Atlas Cross Sport. The Cross Sport is the mechanical cousin of the three-row Atlas, but slightly shorter and a bit lighter — and with more room for cargo.

PHOENIX — For years, I’ve made long weekend pilgrimages to visit family, explore National Parks, and go on golf junkets, mostly because I love to drive and partly because it’s cheap. Recently, it seemed a certain virus might annul my trip to southern Utah, but restrictions eased just in time for our Bryce Canyon-Zion hiking excursion. We were in luck.

2021 Chevy Trailblazer

PHOENIX — For the 2021 model year, Chevrolet has resurrected yet another name from the past, this time the Trailblazer. But rather than the truck-based utility vehicle that was available from 2001 through 2009, the new Trailblazer is a very different vehicle that’s much smaller and slots between the larger Chevy Equinox and smaller Trax. The only thing it shares with the old Trailblazer is the name. Also know, this is not a derivative model of the mid-sized Chevrolet Blazer that’s larger and was an all-new model for 2019.

(June 7, 2020) The automotive market is booming with sub-compact SUV crossovers, and Kia and its corporate cousin Hyundai, have been leading the way with well-made and attractive products. A great example is the all-new 2021 Kia Seltos, which joins a very attractive lineup of small Kia crossovers including the Soul, Niro and Sportage. Other major competitors for the consumers "just right-size" dollar are the mechanically similar Hyundai Kona, the Honda HR-V, Mazda CX-3 and Subaru Crosstrek.
