Chevy Silverado HD 2500 — A solid choice

By Jim Meachen and Ted Biederman

(April 29, 2020) This is the golden age for heavy duty pickup trucks. The big three — Chevrolet Silverado/GMC Sierra, Ram and Ford F-Series — all have new and enticing vehicles. And all come with prodigious amounts of towing and hauling capability together with all the modern comforts and technology found in luxury vehicles. The only limitations are the size of your wallet.

2020 Rolls-Royce Dawn

PHOENIX — Unlike mainstream automakers with a plethora of new models released every year, a new Rolls-Royce doesn’t come along very often. Enter the Dawn, a gorgeous new four-seat convertible introduced a couple model years ago that is undeniably the most sensual, captivating and immersive luxury car experiences available.

Nissan Rogue Sport — Popular crossover refreshed

By Jim Meachen and Ted Biederman

(April 26, 2020) When Nissan introduced a new sub-compact crossover sport utility into the red-hot segment in 2017 it didn't come with a new catchy name. In what turned out to be a brilliant move Nissan married its new vehicle to the hot-selling Rogue compact crossover by calling it the Rogue Sport. And while the “junior” Rouge adopted most of its bigger brother's styling cues the Sport has become a success of its own in the competitive segment.

2020 BMW X5 M50i

INDIANAPOLIS — There’s no doubt I’d enjoy driving the BMW X6 M Competition with its 617 horsepower twin-turbo V8 engine and hard knuckles to tackle any challenging road.  But, oh boy, that’s an intense way to motor around town or cruise to a vacation spot.  Of course, the regular X6 M steps it down a notch, but even that may be a bit crazy.  Apparently, more than a few BMW customers thought the same because the automaker rolls out a new X6 M50i for 2020.  Think of it as the almost-M X6.

Mazda CX-30 — First-rate addition to '3 series' family

By Jim Meachen and Ted Biederman

(April 19, 2020) Mazda it seems is covering every niche of the compact/subcompact family hauler market with three vehicles — the Mazda3 compact hatchback, the Mazda CX-3 crossover, and the all-new Mazda CX-30 crossover/car-like hatchback. The good news is that all three are among the best and most affordable family vehicles currently on the market. The differences in design, technology, performance and infotainment are small.

2020 Nissan Sentra

INDIANAPOLIS — As GM, Ford, and Chrysler flee the compact sedan segment, Nissan has decided to double attack it with vigor.  Tossing aside the previous generation’s tall lozenge styling, the all-new 2020 Sentra is back to flaunt its spicy style.  Looking like it’s been to the gym and a makeover artist, it arrives with a wide stance, chiseled flanks, suave interior, and significantly more invigorating driving experience.

VW Tiguan — A solid crossover choice

By Jim Meachen and Ted Biederman

(April 12, 2020) The Volkswagen Tiguan, which started life in 2009 as a compact crossover, was well received by the critics as a solid value, but it never resonated with buyers in North America because of its small cargo and passenger space compared to competing vehicles in the segment.

Nissan has updated its Titan 1500 pickup truck with a mild makeover for 2020 including a facelift that includes a bolder grille treatment, a new front bumper, newly styled headlights, unique tailgate plaques, and restyled taillights. Perhaps more important, the 5.6-liter V-8 gets more horsepower and torque and is now mated to a 9-speed automatic transmission.

BMW X2 M35i — Performance beast

By Jim Meachen and Ted Biederman

For most of our driving life we have preferred small vehicles that can be tossed around, that are easily maneuvered on crowded streets and parking lots, a joy to drive fast and hard on a favorite winding road, and that are relatively easy on the gasoline budget. If they have luxury qualities and awe-inspiring power all the better.

2020 Porsche Taycan Turbo

PHOENIX — Porsche’s first all-electric car, the 2020 Taycan (pronounced Tie-kahn meaning “lively young horse”) is a profoundly impressive sports sedan. It delivers every bit of refinement, driving engagement with the recognized high-performance sports car experience of other Porsche models that affluent driving enthusiasts have come to expect.
