By Jim Meachen and Ted Biederman

Chevrolet Cruze — Adding style to the compact segment

By Jim Meachen and Ted Biederman

The first Chevrolet Cruze — which reached market in 2011 — went a long way to erase the memories of the Cobalt and Cavalier, for decades Chevrolet's rather lack-luster entries into the competitive compact car segment. So when the second-generation Cruze was introduced last year as a 2016 model it wouldn't have been surprising to see Chevrolet rest on its laurels, playing it safe with an updated clone of the first generation.

Honda Accord Coupe V6 — An alternative to the pony cars

By Jim Meachen and Ted Biederman

For those looking for a performance-infused sports coupe, but who aren't awed by the current crop of retro "pony cars" need look no further than the 2016 Honda Accord Coupe with the V-6 engine. The coupe — along with the sedan — was restyled in 2013 and Honda has updated it for 2016. In six-cylinder guise it delivers sparkling performance and handling on a par with the six-cylinder offerings from Mustang, Camaro and Challenger, but in a more sophisticated package.

Lexus ES 300h — A lot of luxury car for the money

By David Finkelstein

I had to look twice at the manufactures suggested retail pricing for the 2016 Lexus ES 300h Luxury Hybrid Sedan that was my test car for the week. The MSRP stickered out at just $40,920. And that's with countless extras included. For a premium automobile with an attractive retail price, coupled with amazing fuel mileage, this remarkable automobile is clearly a hit on many fronts.

Toyota Corolla — Something for everyone

By David Finkelstein

Frankly speaking, I'm trying to get a grip on all of the build combinations and trim levels offered from Toyota Motors in respect to the 2016 Corolla compact four door, 5-passenger sedan. Certainly, the choices help create appeal to a wide customer base.

Nissan Sentra — A pleasant surprise

By Jim Meachen and Ted Biederman

Nissan's compact Sentra has suddenly become competitive in an extremely competitive segment. Nissan claims the refreshed 2016 Sentra has an improved ride, a quieter interior, numerous upgrades including an advanced safety package and even a new steering wheel inspired by the 370Z sports car. And the Sentra has incredibly ample rear-seat legroom for a small sedan. In improving the Sentra for 2016, Nissan changed out 550 parts.

Jeep Renegade — Impressive on road and off

By Jim Meachen and Ted Biederman

Most of the time auto reviewers are loaned top-of-the-line vehicles or at least heavily-contented versions affording them the opportunity to experience all the goodies the manufacturer has to offer. So it was a mild shock to take delivery of a base Jeep Renegade Sport with front wheel drive and a six-speed manual transmission.

Toyota Tacoma — An off-road champ

By Jim Meachen and Ted Biederman

The bottom line — If you like the previous-generation Toyota Tacoma you will almost certainly like the all-new 2016 edition. All the things that have made the Toyota mid-sized pickup America's favorite over the past decade have been retained in this total remake. Toyota has improved the Tacoma in numerous ways while retaining its unique flavor.

Jaguar XJR — Luxury mixed with performance

By Jim Meachen and Ted Biederman

In a perfect world, the 2016 Jaguar XJR high-performance sedan might just be the perfect car. It offers a wonderful blend of style inside and out, a luxury ambiance that is hard to equal at any price, the latest in information and safety technology, room for four discerning passengers, and the type of silky, powerful V-8 performance that will bring a smile to the face of even the most sullen person.

Subaru Forester — A solid compact crossover

By David Finkelstein

Competing in the arena with compact sport utility vehicles is the two-row, five passenger imported 2016 Subaru Forester. Subaru Motors has raised the bar with their addition of new safety enhancements for this model year. It's referred to as their Subaru Starlink safety and security system.
