2020 Range Rover Evoque

INDIANAPOLIS — You have to give Range Rover credit for consistency. Whether it is the large flagship that easily crosses into six figures, the smaller Range Rover Sport, Velar, or smallest Evoque, all look part of a family that dates to the original country estate wagon from the 1970s.  While the first generation Evoque may have been a little small and light on capability, this second generation represents a stronger embrace of its famous family.

2020 Range Rover plug-in

INDIANAPOLIS — It looks much like any other Range Rover.  It’s huge, with a big grille and streamlined bodysides that end in the model’s traditional trailing rear flanks.  Body color trim, LED headlamps, and 20” wheels give no clue to anything different.  It’s quite handsome in its bold Britishness, but looks like another Range Rover.  Squint your eyes to notice that big grille conceals a surprise.  Deftly hidden on the driver’s side is a door, behind which there’s a port for a power plug.  Yep, it’s a plug-in hybrid.

Land Rover Range Rover Velar — Stylish and capable

By Jim Meachen and Ted Biederman

Land Rover is expanding its Range Rover lineup to include a new, stylish mid-sized entry called the Velar, which was the name used for the original Range Rover prototype back in the late 1960s. It’s designed for comfortable on-road driving to compete against the ever-expanding list of segment competitors.

Land Rover Discovery — A well-rounded SUV

By Jim Meachen and Ted Biederman

The all-new Land Rover Discovery is the personification of a modern sport utility vehicle, the primary vehicle for handling suburban family chores with a quiet, refined interior, the latest in automotive technology, confident and predictable handling, and satisfying performance — while at the same time possessing class-leading off-road capability.

2017 Evoque convertible

INDIANAPOLIS — With the summer season we’re going to have many warm days with clear blue skies and gentle breezes. And, you may be looking at your SUV thinking, “I sure wish I had a convertible instead of this hulking beast.” Apparently, the designers at Range Rover had the same thought because they took the compact Evoque crossover and ripped off its top for summer.

2017 Land Rover Discovery

ST. GEORGE, Utah —  The boxy Land Rover LR4 is fresh off a complete redesign and is not only a thoroughly different looking vehicle, but also has a new name: Land Rover Discovery. This fifth-generation model sports a new look inside and out and features a slew of technological advancements. This includes the lightweight monocoque body construction, made of up to 85 percent high-strength aluminum, reducing total vehicle weight by 1,000 pounds or about 20 percent over the outgoing LR4 model.

Land Rover's diesel — What the doctor ordered

By Jim Meachen and Ted Biederman

Despite the problems Volkswagen now faces with its diesel engine emission scandal, which will end up costing the German company billions of dollars and hundreds of thousands of near-term vehicle sales, it actually has nothing to do with the modern diesel engine. The newer, clean diesels now showing up on a variety of vehicles in North America offer exceptional fuel mileage without the need for hyper-milling, and with exceptional torque ratings increasing the towing capability of trucks and SUVs.

2016 Range Rover Td6 diesel

SEDONA, Ariz. — Range Rovers are sold around the world, and fully half of them are equipped with diesel engines. In the Queen’s motherland, that number soars to fully 90 percent. Now, for the first time, the folks at Jaguar/Land Rover are introducing diesel powertrains to the U.S. market.
Both the 2016 Land Rover Range Rover and Range Rover Sport can now be purchased with a 3.0-liter turbo diesel engine.

Land Rover LR4 — Serious off-road luxury

By Jim Meachen and Ted Biederman

The Land Rover LR4 is the best buy in the company's stable of very desirable luxury sport utility vehicles. Few if any SUVs provide the LR4's blend of high-dollar features, a spacious interior that will accommodate up to seven passengers and serious off-road capability for just north of $50,000. The LR4's desirability is enhanced even more by its traditional upright Land Rover styling that draws admiring glances.

Land Rover Range Rover Sport SVR — Loaded with performance

By Jim Meachen and Ted Biederman

The second-generation Range Rover Sport arrived in 2014 conceived alongside the all-new slightly larger Range Rover, and we discovered a year ago that it is a vehicle truly deserving of the "sport" moniker — endowed with a quick, agile personality that seems as anxious to take on winding roads as the most rugged rock-strewn and water-infested outback.
