2021 GMC Yukon AT4

INDIANAPOLIS — One of my favorite car magazines essentially called GM’s all-new full-size SUVs losers because they’re apparently not that great on the skid pad.  In other words, their grip when being driven like a race car is not good.  Well, newsflash, full-size SUVs weighing 5,677 lbs. and packing the underpinnings to rise up and bound over rough trails are rarely very good at autocrossing.  Climb aboard the completely redesigned 2021 GMC Yukon AT4 and I suspect you won’t care.

2020 GMC Sierra HD

JACKSON HOLE, Wyo. — GMC has just introduced its full line of heavy-duty trucks for 2020 at a media drive event in Jackson Hole, Wyoming. Engineers at the event emphasized that the new trucks are the most capable heavy-duty truck they’ve ever built, and promised world-class towing capability, out muscling the likes of Ford Super Duty and Ram HD with a class leading maximum towing capacity of 35,500 pounds.

GMC Sierra AT4 — Off-road performance

By Jim Meachen and Ted Biederman

In years past there hasn't been much to distinguish the GMC Sierra from the Chevrolet Silverado other than the Sierra was more feature-laden and came in at a higher price point. It seems one of General Motors' goals with its all-new-for-2019 full-sized trucks was to better differentiate appearance and personality that easily distinguishes the brands giving the GMC a clear-cut personality of its own.

2019 GMC Sierra Denali

PHOENIX — Pickup trucks are better than ever and the hottest selling vehicle segment on the market thanks to America’s growing love affair, an insatiable appetite for them and a strong economy. It also helps that most automakers have dramatically upped their game with new entrants like the return of the Ford Ranger and Honda Ridgeline mid-sized trucks. Still others like Ram, Chevrolet and GMC are all new for 2019.

Genesis G80 3.3T — An all-around winner

By Jim Meachen and Ted Biederman

Earlier this year Genesis was named the top ranked luxury automaker in Consumer Reports 2018 brand ratings. Genesis also finished second behind Porsche — and ahead of such vaunted nameplates as Audi and Lexus — in the latest J.D. Power APEAL study, which measures customer satisfaction with a brand. These and other accolades are astounding considering Genesis was spun off of parent Hyundai Motor Company less than three years ago, and currently has only two models.

GMC Terrain — Compact crossover standout

By Jim Meachen and Ted Biederman

You are in the market for a new compact crossover SUV, but this time around you would like to stand out from the crowd, drive something different than the popular segment offerings — but without sacrificing performance, build quality, cargo space and passenger comfort.

GMC Canyon Denali — Mid-sized pickup luxury

By Jim Meachen and Ted Biederman

When the latest versions of the Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon hit the marketplace as 2015 models it created renewed excitement in the mid-sized truck market that had all but passed away. Since then, Toyota after 10 years completely overhauled its top-selling Tacoma, and a new Honda Ridgeline has earned high praise from auto critics. The Nissan Frontier is due for a total remake in the near future, and there are rumors the Ford Ranger will return to the U.S. in the foreseeable future.

GMC Acadia — Now in a tidier package

By Jim Meachen and Ted Biederman

It was going to be a week of hauling out-of-town visitors so we were in need of a vehicle that could on occasion carry as many as six passengers. When we heard that our automotive supplier had scheduled a GMC Acadia, we were happy and relieved — until we discovered that GMC had downsized the all-new 2017 Acadia — the first complete makeover of the vehicle since its introduction in 2007 — from a near full-sized crossover to more of a standard mid-size CUV.

2016 GMC Canyon Diesel

MOAB, Utah — The GMC Canyon is the costlier up market counterpart to the Chevrolet Colorado midsize pickup truck. After a two year hiatus due to low demand and slumping sales GM brought back the trucks for 2015. It was seen as a surprise because other smaller trucks such as the Ford Ranger, Honda Ridgeline and Dodge Dakota had already left the market. That left just the Toyota Tacoma and Nissan Frontier and, neither of those trucks had seen a redesign since 2005 until the Tacoma this year.

GMC Yukon XL Denali — Ultimate everything sport utility

By Jim Meachen and Ted Biederman

More than two decades ago four of us decided to do the ultimate baseball tour attending 10 major league stadiums in 12 days. It involved a lot of driving, eating what seemed like a ton of hamburgers and hot dogs, and keeping one guy on a diet of soft drinks so the other three could partake of the local brews.
