2015 Cadillac Escalade

HOUSTON — It’s no big secret that the Escalade from Cadillac and the Chevrolet Tahoe and Suburban SUV’s share the same roots.  That’s a common occurrence in the automotive world.  Historically, critics have asserted that there was not enough difference between the Cadillac and the Chevy products to justify the price spread.  Finally, with this latest generation of the Escalade, those concerns can be put to rest.  The new Escalade is now its own vehicle.

Cadillac ELR — A stunning take on frugal driving

By Jim Meachen and Ted Biederman

The Cadillac designers should be commended for turning the Cadillac Converj show car into a production vehicle. Design traits include a steeply raked windshield; long, sloping roof pillars that taper back into the trunk; and a character line that rises steeply from front to back into boomerang-shaped taillights. It's all set off by stylishly painted 20-inch alloy wheels. Meet the 2014 ELR.

Cadillac CTS — All the right stuff

By Jim Meachen and Ted Biederman

The outgoing Cadillac CTS was hard to classify, larger than the BMW 3 Series, but smaller than the 5 Series. Should it be considered a large compact or a small mid-sized luxury sedan? This less-than-world-shattering question has now been answered with the all-new 2014 CTS. It's 4.2 inches longer and rides on a 1.2-inch longer wheelbase than the outgoing car putting it smack-dab into 5 Series, Audi A6 and Mercedes E-Class territory.

2014 Cadillac CTS

INDIANAPOLIS — The fact that the 2014 Cadillac CTS won Motor Trend Magazine’s Car of the Year is not astonishing; the last-generation CTS did the same thing in 2008.  But this year, it won against redesigned Mercedes E-Class and BMW 5-Series sedans — a frontal attack on the German Bismarcks.  It also beat the Corvette Stingray, Mercedes S-Class, Infiniti Q50, Mazda3, Mazda6, and Kia Cadenza. Take a breath.

2014 Cadillac XTS VSport

GOLDSBORO, N.C. — It seems the headlines coming from Cadillac these days are all about the new all-new 2014 CTS and also its all-new VSport model. The CTS VSport features a twin-turbo version of Cadillac's 3.6-liter direct-injection V-6 making 420 horsepower and producing performance in the upper ranges of 4 seconds from 0-to-60.

Cadillac ATS — Lux sport sedan gets it right

By Jim Meachen and Ted Biederman

More than a decade ago Cadillac kicked off a reclamation program with the introduction of a new mid-sized sedan, the CTS, using what it called an "art & science" design philosophy to better compete in the entry-level luxury sport sedan segment dominated at the time by the BMW 3-Series, Mercedes-Benz C-Class and Audi A4.

Cadillac CTS-V — American muscle

By Jim Meachen and Ted Biederman

Looks great; goes fast.

If forced to sum up the 2012 Cadillac CTS-V Coupe in four words, that’s the four we would use. More specifically the CTS-V carries an appealing concept-car design that has miraculously made it into the ranks of production cars, and it houses supercharged muscle measured at 556 horsepower.

Cadillac SRX — Performance catches up to design

By Jim Meachen and Ted Biederman

Sales of the first generation Cadillac SRX, designed to compete against the hot-selling Lexus RX as well as models from European brands such as Mercedes-Benz, Audi, Volvo and BMW, hit 30,000 only once, in its inaugural year of 2004, before falling into also-ran status.

The mid-sized luxury crossover RX, with sales nearing 100,000 annually during the first decade of the 21st Century, had nothing to fear from the Cadillac in terms of sales supremacy.

Cadillac CTS Coupe — High impact eye candy

By Jim Meachen and Ted Biederman

The 2011 Cadillac CTS coupe is an excellent example of form over function; and the form is nothing short of beautiful. The head-turning good looks trump an assortment of aggravations

So when we weigh both sides of the equation, beauty wins out just proving how shallow we are. This is not to say that the CTS coupe doesn’t have a host of other outstanding attributes. It does. For example, it is a supreme road carver with wonderful handling qualities. It has solid performance from the 3.6-liter V-6 engine making 304 horsepower. And the cabin is an example of elegant, standout design. Its ride comfort is pleasing even to curmudgeons.
