BMW 230i — Driving fun in a small package

(June 12, 2022) The last five BMW vehicles we've tested all had the performance M in their name and two were actually full-throated M performance cars — the M4 Competition Coupe and the X3 M, both sporting 503 horsepower — so it might be surprising to learn we were blown away after driving the new-for-2022 230i coupe. That's the base 2-Series with a turbocharged 4-cylinder making — Yikes — just 255 horsepower. Never mind the rather paltry hp rating, we really liked the way the little coupe handled and performed. We could own one and be very happy heading out for wherever each day.

(April 3, 2022) During the time we were experiencing the thrilling performance of a 2022 BMW M4 Competition xDrive Coupe we saw the list of finalists for World Car of the Year honors and among the final three World Performance Cars of the Year was the M4. No surprise here. We had our hands on the ultimate version with 503 horsepower and all-wheel drive. But it seems, the “grand prize” World Car of the Year award is out of the range of any vehicle with an internal combustion engine (ICE) — all three 2022 finalists are motivated by electric motors.

(March 13, 2022) We've been blessed with the opportunity to drive three variations of the BMW 4-Series in the past 18 months, all outfitted with the M performance 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged inline 6-cylinder engine that provides all the driving thrills and enjoyment you expect from the "Ultimate Driving Machine" company. It makes 382 horsepower ad 396 pound-feet of torque directed to all four wheels in the M440i configuration.

PHOENIX — The BMW 2-series is the German automakers entry-level-two-door with the 2022 model year introducing an all-new generation for the model. For 2022 the 2 Series is offered in two completely different cars — the front-wheel drive Gran Coupe, a four-door sedan, the other a rear-wheel drive two-door coupe with all-wheel drive optional tested here.

2022 BMW M440i

INDIANAPOLIS — We all make questionable fashion choices.  For me, it’s an old sweater from high school and a certain pair of shoes even my family can’t stand.  For the 2022 BMW M440i, it might be its giant schnoz that looks menacing, but also suggests it may be sucking a sour tart.  Hopefully a little time will make all of these flourishes seem fashion forward and not faux paus.  Besides, it’s easy to forgive a little fashion foray when the rest of your action is on-point.

(January 9, 2022) With electrification rapidly taking over our driving life, this might be the best time to enjoy massive horsepower and insane performance from an internal combustion engine. It may never get any better — as long as you have the cash to explore the world of monster ICE performance. And our current example is not only breathtakingly fast, but it offers a large dose of practicality.

(August 29, 2021) After a 22-year hiatus BMW revived the 8-Series as its new flagship model, sitting high atop BMW’s lineup in terms of design, luxury and status. The Gran Coupe reviewed here is a four-door sedan version of the two-door 8-Series, which is available as a coupe or convertible.

BMW M2 CS — Smoking hot land rocket

(September 12, 2021) There are some Ultimate Driving Machines that are more "ultimate" than others. In fact, BMW's limited edition little two-door 2020 M2 CS coupe might be the most "ultimate" of all. BMW upped the horsepower ante of its standard M2, a 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged six-cylinder engine, from 405 to 440 stuffing it into the miniature beast dovetailing with extraordinary handling and cornering grip. It proved a driving delight — a pocket rocket on steroids.

(July 4, 2021) We drove the 2021 BMW M440i coupe earlier this year and loved it. So we were delighted to get the convertible version in the same week we were taking a beach trip. What a glorious time and place for top-down driving — along the beach with 70 degree temperatures and wind in the hair.
